Torse I, 1934
Bronze, numbered print, Susse foundry
108 X 51 X 34 cm
Base carved from a reused block of Cassis stone evoking an antique block. (Contemporary adaptation)
Torso I, a youthful work already demonstrating the maturity of the artist, is part of the series of studies for the Loretto, a young boy in full length of beautiful classical workmanship from the thirties, embodied by sculptors enjoying the era of great notoriety such as Belmondo or Despiau.
However, the fragmentary character inspired by an ancient torso seems much less “dated” than the complete character.
