“I got to know Roger Desserprit in 1949, in Paris, at Vieira da Silva at receptions that the Portuguese painter gave every Saturday afternoon. His studio was a very welcoming place, in every way.

In these meetings we saw many personalities of the arts, critics, historians, merchants, painters, sculptors, we exchanged our ideas, we made acquaintances, we discussed current trends, of which abstract art had the primacy.

One found there, among others, Campigli, Goetz, Marcelle Cahn, Nouveau, Atlan, Seuphor, Nicolas de Staël, merchants: J. Pierre, J. De Bourg, Pierre Loeb, and so on. From then on, my meetings with Roger and his partner Ginette were daily.

We started a plastic collaboration which led us to do our M.A.D.I.exhibition the following year. at Colette Allendy and then at Réalités Nouvelles, in 1950, with the participation, apart from the two of us, of Eielson, Bresciani, Koskas, Charchoune, Lerein. This was the first M.A.D.I. of this show, for us memorable.

Desserprit’s work was there, as elsewhere, always exemplary. Shortly afterwards Roger made his major exhibition of sculptures and luminous paintings at Colette Allendy. The whole of pictorial Paris enthusiastically approved this new plastic.

Roger Desserprit was an indefatigable worker and his participation in our group was always eminent, as eminent his activity of precursor through the years in the New Realities. Desserprit’s work remains and will remain as one of the most original and relevant of our time, it is my deep conviction ”. Carmelo Arden Quin
