Jean Prouvé: Nomadic Structures 1957

In 1957, the brilliant ‘sheet metal twister’ from Nancy, with the collaboration of the talented engineer Serge Ketoff, created three of these standardized and modular structures for temporary school use in Villejuif, based on an innovative construction principle: the asymmetrical strut.

Completely breaking with the prefabricated architecture of the era, Jean Prouvé once again demonstrated his pioneering role.
The encounter between this icon of the most radical modernity and the magnificent classical arrangement of the main courtyard of the Hôtel de la Monnaie, built in 1775 by Jacques Denis Antoine, offers a harmonious vision, demonstrating the ability of masterpieces to naturally coexist, transcending centuries and styles.

Architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, at the request of Eric Touchaleaume, kindly contributed his expertise in spatial design, thus enhancing this architectural encounter.

Through the magic of the virtual, Jean-Michel Wilmotte also envisioned the placement of this structure in locations and for uses as diverse as a design museum in Seoul, a penthouse on the roof of a skyscraper in New York, or even a secondary residence in the Var hinterland…
