Marguerite SERUSIER (1879-1950)
Still Life with Butterflies, c. 1910

Oil on canvas
Bears a P.S studio stamp on the lower right
Painted on a fine canvas, relined and with a recent stretcher. Probably acquired unstretched by Guy Dulon. Good condition.

46 x 36.5 cm

Former collection Guy Dulon.

Student at the Académie Ranson from 1905 under the direction of the Nabi painter, Paul Sérusier, whom she married in 1912.
She directed the Atelier Martine (1912/1929), the decoration house of the renowned couturier Paul Poiret, exerting a significant influence on decorative arts applied to textiles.
Although painted on canvas, this emblematic work of her creation could be a textile design project.
Her high-quality painted work is sometimes attributed to her husband and vice versa. This is the case for this painting, which bears the PS studio stamp, mistakenly applied during the inventory of works remaining in the studio after her death.
