The Ntakrahene is a high-ranking dignitary, guardian and bearer of royal insignia, such as ceremonial feathered headdresses and other elements of royal adornment worn during major ceremonies.
Feathers signify rank and dignity associated with strength, wisdom, and bravery.

This hyperrealistic work belongs to a series commemorating the funeral ceremonies of King Otumfoj Opoku Ware II, produced shortly after his death in February 1999, alongside two other paintings presented in the same exhibition, The late Otumfoj Opoku Ware II and Dancing chief (…).
