Alkyd paint on plywood and wooden framing strips, 121.5 x 80.5 cm.
Bibliography: Kwame Akoto, Almighty God Art Works. Exhibition catalogue, Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac. Fondation Antoine de Galbert. Empire Books, 2026. No work directly related, although the artist’s face appears in several compositions.
A very fine self-portrait: a close-up framing of Kwame Akoto’s face, using only a limited range of black, grey, brown and white, superbly rendering the skin tone.
The directness of the gaze and the dignity of the pose attest to the artist’s moral integrity.
During the author’s stay in Kumasi in 2010, Kwame Akoto agreed to a few photographs while working on a self-portrait that was half-man, half-elephant, using a small mirror.
