François STAHLY (1911-2006)

The Forest of Tacoma, 1961 – 1966

Bronze with a beautiful verdigris patina due to prolonged exposure to a marine climate, posthumous cast, bears the artist’s signature and the TEP founder’s stamp no. 1/8, 254 x 45.5 x 33.5 cm.

The Forest of Tacoma is part of a body of sculpted wooden works inspired by Stahly’s lifelong love for the forest. Among the most notable works from this period are The Echo of the Forest, 1963, composed of four groups of sculptures partitioning the reception hall of the Maison de la Radio in Paris… and of course, The Summer of the Forest, with its more primitivist treatment.
