Hector GUIMARD (1867-1942)

Auditorium armchair with folding seat, 1899.

Special model designed for the Humbert de Romans concert hall, Paris.

Provenance:

– Humbert de Romans concert hall in Paris, demolished in 1905. Guimard architect
– Some seats were recovered and reused in a small cinema in the Vézelay region
– Formerly in the Alain Blondel collection

Two lateral bases with a vegetal motif, made of bottle-green painted cast iron, supporting the seat, armrests, and backrest. Solid mahogany backrest with an openwork cut-out, upholstered in bottle-green moleskin, stamped with the HR monogram. Folding seat mounted on lateral pivots, upholstered in bottle-green moleskin, stamped with the HR monogram. Armrests upholstered in bottle-green moleskin. Brass rod connecting the feet, shortened to adapt to a single armchair. Originally, the armchairs were assembled in rows and connected by a full-length brass rod.
