This hyperrealistic work belongs to a series commemorating the funeral ceremonies of King Otumfoj Opoku Ware II, created shortly after his death in February 1999, alongside two other paintings presented in the same exhibition, The late Otumfoj Opoku Ware II and Feathers chief (…).
The particularly successful depiction of movement and the dancer’s trance state attest to the artist’s dexterity.
